The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was started in 1938 by Pappy Hoel and the Jackpine Gypsies MC, of which he was a founding member.
Besides being a bar, there are vendors, a burnout pit, nightly concerts by big names, motorcycle rides and you can even rent a cabin for the duration of the rally. During the rally, there are normally 15,000 – 20,000 attendees each night. It is only open for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally held yearly during the first full week of August. The Throttle, as it is affectionately called, opened in 1999 on 30 acres owned by Ballard in Sturgis, SD. I did like I’m sure many others did and bought a tee shirt just in case it never returned. Soon, he was saying that he was going to rebuild but was unsure of when or what form it would take. In the immediate aftermath, Michael Ballard, the owner and founder of the Full Throttle, was not sure what the future held.
Investigators determined that the fire was caused by an electrical problem with an extension cord and some cardboard.
As I’m sure most of you know, the Full Throttle Saloon, billed as the world’s largest biker bar, was destroyed by fire last September.
